Airmess could not be described as original, on playing it you may well be very much reminded of another very similar game that was one of the first titles released many years ago on the PS2, Wipeout that game was called and it featured futuristic hovering vehicles that raced round tracks, well that is exactly what Airmess is also, that being said if you are going to emulate someone else’s game then they certainly picked a good one and when the game is free it’s hard to hold too big a grudge.
Airmess really has been designed to be played with a game controller and whilst it is possible to play it with the keyboard it can become a difficult and frustrating experience when you lose the other pack of racers immediately and then only watch yourself fall further back as you try to navigate the corners which can be extremely difficult when using the keyboard.
As you make your way round the track you can pick up certain items such as rockets, heat seeking missiles and speed boosts which seem like they would be a lot of fun if you can get close enough to another racer to use them effectively.
On a more positive note it does have a pretty great soundtrack of electronic and drum and bass music which fits the whole futuristic vibe perfectly and when you go through certain tunnels you can even see the patterns change in time with the music, you can also add your own downloaded music to the game.
As a free game there is certainly not too much to complain about except for the difficulty but I’m sure with some practice that is an obstacle that can be overcome.
Airmess is free to download and you can download it here.
