Vanilla Skyrim has a variety of issues. Most would agree that the passage of time has not been kind to it, with a ton of people rightfully pointing out a ton of issues with it. Luckily, Skyrim has one of the largest modding scenes around and a ton of creators have dedicated themselves to fixing the game's many issues. One of them is Realistic Water Two to improve the look of water up close and make them look more realistic.
To install Realistic Water Two, drag it into the Skyrim Data folder, and make it load near the top but after weather mods. Make sure you don't have other water mods as those are the only conflicts.
This mod comes with a ton of different features. For instance:
- Lakes and ocean water share the same water visually now.
- Lakes, ponds, marsh, and small bodies of water no longer flows in a direction like a river.
- Lakes, rivers, and oceans have ambient sounds. Ponds are silent.
- Animated water for the blacksmith troughs.
- Icebergs and ice chunks will sometimes crack and gurgle.
- Waves from the Dragonborn DLC have been added to the Coastline of base Skyrim.
- Fixes terrible landscape along the shore across from Solitude docks.
This results in overall much better-looking water in Skyrim, and more critically, they flow correctly. You no longer have to worry about the water flowing strangely breaking your immersion. If that's ever bothered you, then you should give Realistic Water Two a download - you definitely won't regret it.
