The Union 1.0

At first glance The Union looks like another fantasy board game conversion, of which there seems to be many around these days which tend to lack in game play and rely on the current trend for all things fantasy after LOTR and Game of Thrones having brought fantasy back to the main stream.

It’s a pleasant surprise that this game is actually very playable, it’s a simple turn based game which relies heavily on strategy and a little bit of luck.

The animation is cartoonish but nicely done and enjoyable, you may even want a zombie goblin as a pet after playing this (warning if you do get a zombie goblin as a pet, never ever feed it after midnight or get it wet…wait I may be confusing my fictional monsters).

Playing The Union can be a little slow as you take all your turns moving your characters in to their positions, you can choose to move them strategically or go straight to attack the opposite team, but then it is something of a waiting period while the AI opponent makes their move, but if you’re settled down with a nice cuppa then you can use the waiting periods to enjoy your beverage.

The look of this game is very appealing and you can see a lot of work has gone in to the character design, you have a few different levels some of them are just a simple initiative to win a prison yard fight for example, but others have more of a mission feel such as trying to fight off or avoid the other monsters so that you can reach a crystal.

It’s not a fast paced all action game but it is enjoyable, it would be great if there was a multiplayer option as this is the sort of game it would be great to play with friends or other people from around the world.

The Union free download is not going to pull up any trees when it comes to innovation but it’s a fun experience for a short time.
