There has been a recent trend in fiction where people take traditional fairy tales and add a dark twist on it. This is surprising, because fairy tales are already pretty dark if you think about it. One of the more popular fairy tales to twist is Alice in Wonderland, as the themes of madness and surrealism lends itself well to that. While there have been AAA games that do this, we're going to be looking at the Alice is Dead flash game series. Let's look at Alice is Dead: Episode 1.
To install Alice is Dead: Episode 1, simply run the file in whatever SWF player you have.
As soon as you start playing the game, you'll feel a sense of wrongness. You start off as an amnesiac stuck in a room, with your only companion being a skeletal corpse in a familiar white and blue dress. From here, you have to figure out what to do. The game is one part mystery, one part escape room.
The game has no jumpscares, but it instead has an incredibly unsettling atmosphere. With "Here comes the Bogeyman" playing in the background and the startling sight of a skeletal corpse along with the generally unsettling dynamic Wonderland has, this game is not one for the faint of heart.
The only downside is that it's fairly obtuse and short, but considering the quality of that palytime, Alice is Dead: Episode 1 is definitely worth experiencing at least once along with its sequels.
