Metroid 2 is one of the most beloved games of all times and part of the series that defined a genre known as "Metroidvania", which refers to the exploration layout both the Metroid and Castlevania series used. However, the game has aged poorly, and there are a ton of people who take it upon themselves to fix it. One of them is A2MR.
To install A2MR, simply unpack it and run the executable.
There are a lot of flaws with this remake, but let's get the positives out of the way first. The aged gameplay and numerous flaws of the original game have been patched up. Samus is incredibly intuitive to control and feels great to control. Most of the rooms have been remade incredibly well and there are some new interesting gimmicks added. The levels are all fun to navigate through.
However, there is definitely a loss of vision with this remake. The developer has said that he made each room one at a time to whatever whimsy he had at the time, which would explain the lack of vision. A lot of the silent yet complex narrative of the original Metroid 2 has been completely destroyed, and the atmosphere is also nearly nonexistent in this remake. This is a game that already assumes that you know what's going on in the original Metroid 2 - otherwise, a lot of the moments simply don't make sense.
Overall, if you're a fan of Metroid 2 already, you should play A2MR. If you're a new fan, you are probably better off playing the original.
