Metroid was one of two games that completely kickstarted a genre of games, titled appropriately as Metroidvania. This genre of games was focused on exploration and the world constantly opened up as you got more and more upgrades that are focused on traversing the environment. The sense of constant discovery and finding secrets can't be matched by many other genres. Of course, being so important, Metroid has also spawned a ton of fan games. One of them is Metroid Redemption.
To install Metroid Redemption, simply unzip the archive into a folder of your choosing and run the executable.
The graphics, sound, and music are all pretty standard Metroid - and for good reason. After all, these sounds were taken directly from the original game. There isn't much to say about them other than they fit into the game because they were barely changed from the original fantastic game.
The game also plays similarly to the first game, to the point where you can only shoot in 8 directions, avoid obstacles, so on and so forth. In short, this game doesn't do much original, and it usually feels a lot like the first game, except with a different map and layout. As it turns out, however, that's really all a game needs to be a good game because of just how solid the basic mechanics of the first Metroid game was. A derivative game is still great.
If you're a massive Metroid fan, then tehre's not that much reason not to at least give Metroid Redemption a look.
