Flash games were like the wild west. During the time they were around, modern game design in and of itself wasn't fully fleshed out. Sure, there were a couple of soft rules, but experimentation was everywhere.  Flash games were and are the most experimental games you can play around as they don't really care what's "right" and what's "wrong". Some of the most unique games out there started out as flash games. Creeper World - Training Simulator is a great example of that.

This game is basically a giant tutorial game for the main game. The setup is that you are a commander that is in consideration for commanding the last bastion of humanity, and you're going through a training simulator to prove that you have the ability to lead.

The main gameplay loop is incredible in how simple yet genius it is. You are basically fighting against malicious liquid, and you have to defend yourself and expand to collect more resources to eventually reach totems and portal out of there. To power all the weapons holding them all at bay, you need to build collectors that will collect energy from the area around it. These collectors also form supply chains through which the city will supply power. Thus, it's crucial that you keep your collectors and supply chains alive.

All in all, Creeper World - Training Simulator is a proof of concept that has fantastic value and will be expanded on later.
