Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at Deep Fear.
To install Deep Fear, simply unzip the files inside the archive into any folder you want.
The premise is simple. You wake up in a hallway, and you walk down it. You can interact with the occasional door, but overall, you just walk down the hallway. As you walk, the environment starts to get creepier and creepier, and you eventually enter a door to start all over again, where each loop kicks up the supernatural elements.
If you didn't notice, it's very similar to the famous PT demo. It has the same gameplay loop and the same sense of somebody watching you, a sense that is compounded by the fact that there are whispers telling you that there's something behind you.
You'll run into other spooky stuff too, such as a random dude who's crying and pounding his head against a wall, and another strange incident where the entire hallway is blood red.
All of this is compounded by the video effect and the fact that the whole game is in 4:3, which is so unnatural nowadays that it truly magnifies the horror.
All in all, Deep Fear is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
