DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. But before all that, there were the humble WADs, just maps that had different characteristics based on which author made them. One of them is Duse Ex Machina.
To install Duse Ex Machina, you need to have GZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.
There is no supplied story, but judging from the weird floor, sky, and teleporters, it's probably another chapter in the Doomguy's life. This is yet another map set in hell, which is perfectly fine. That is what Doom is about, after all.
There's a general flow to the level. You progress from the eastern side of the outdoor are and into the dungeon filled with teleporters. You eventually appear on a ledge that divides the two halves of the map, where you have to jump down, then enter some faraway areas using a portal. The sense of adventure and progression as you mvoe through this map is incredibly engaging, and the battles along the way are also well designed.
All in all, Duse Ex Machina is a fantastic map and is a great look into the past.
