The MOBA genre has boomed in popularity in recent years, although few have been able to dethrone the most popular ones. Since the likes of League of Legends or Dota have dominated the field of traditional MOBAs, any competitor will have to change the formula somehow to stand out. While SMITE turned to a third-person perspective, there are a whole lot of other games that tried other things. In this case, Heavy Metal Machines decided to turn it into an overhead driving game.
Do note that Heavy Metal Machines is only available on Steam, so download and install that, then click here to install it.
This game starts off with a tutorial teaching you all the racing elements and different gameplay mechanics. Even veteran MOBA players should pay attention to this tutorial, as surprisingly, a lot of your knowledge won't carry over. You need to worry about acceleration, handling, powerups, and more. Spending time in the tutorial until you become comfortable with the basic movement is important.
There are a wide variety of modes, but the main event that happens during them is combat. Most of the time, however, it eventually turns into two people circling, trying to get behind the other. It can be funny the first few times, but eventually turns tedious.
There's also a ton of progression, with each machine being unique as well. There's a ton of neat concepts involved with this game, and the machines do have some depth to it. Once the game gets some more updates, I can easily recommend this. As it is, it's a little barebones.
