DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods that can all do different things. One of the best ones out there is Mayan Mishap, a map that has an incredibly unique setting.
To install Mayan Mishap, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM mods.
There is no story whatsoever to this mod - it is incredibly focused on gameplay. All you need to know is that you're in a vaguely Mayan environment. The creator has also has made a ton of changes to the normal demons, both visual and behavioral. Every fireball now flies way faster and the demons also have increased movement speed. Some demons even get new weapons whatsoever, with the Baron now throwing out a pair of plasma fire and shoots rockets.
The map somehow looks both striking and empty. The ruins you'll explore are stunning and have unique layouts, but they're also lacking in personality. When compared to other mods that feature carvings or paintings on the wall to accentuate the environment a little bit.
All in all, Mayan Mishap is a challenging and fun map to play through. If that sounds like it'll be up your creek, you should definitely give the map a download.
