A game jam is a contest where participants try to make a video game fully from scratch in a tiny amount of time. This usually ends up with people focusing on unique concepts that need to carry the rushed visuals and presentation. Some of the most unique ideas and settings have come from game jams. One Last Game is one of the best examples of this.
To play One Last Game, just unzip the files into a folder and run the executable.
This game is incredibly short. One playthrough takes three minutes, give or take. It's hard coded to take that long. The premise is simple - you're sitting in a dark room with a loved one as you both play checkers...and the sounds of bullets and bombs exploding keep sounding out in the background. The room shakes with each bomb dropped, scattering the Checker pieces around, but neither of you particularly care and keep playing anyways for as long as you can until the inevitable conclusion.
I can safely say that this is one of the most intense games I've played, and I've played some games that are known for being incredibly high stress. It's doubly impressive because there aren't any enemies, no real antagonists to speak of. Just you playing Checkers with your loved one. It's a very poignant tale of humanity.
There's pretty much no reason to not give One Last Game a download. It's short and incredibly bittersweet. It's truly a very powerful game despite its incredibly short runtime.
