A game jam is a contest where participants try to make a video game fully from scratch in a tiny amount of time. This usually ends up with people focusing on unique concepts that need to carry the rushed visuals and presentation. Some of the most unique ideas and settings have come from game jams. hammer_space is one of these games, leaning far into its main gimmick to truly stand out.
To install hammer_space, just unzip it wherever you want and run the executable.
The game's premise is extremely interesting and unique. You load into an in development FPS game and find that the weapons of the game haven't spawned in. A developer note you find nearby says that one of the coders forgot to rename the weapon files so they're referenced properly. You quickly run into enemies without a weapon in hand before you find a glitch in the wall nearby. You run through it and find yourself in a developer room with a hammer. A developer note nearby says that the hammer keeps breaking level geometry, so you quickly grab it and bash your way out and back into the map.
From here on out, you have to constantly clip yourself out of the wall to get around the enemies to take them out. Developer notes dotted throughout both sell the illusion that this is an in development game as well as giving you tips on how to progress, such as one saying that gravity is lighter outside the map, letting you make longer jumps.
The game isn't very long, but it very much proves that a gimmick carries a game far. You should definitely give hammer_space a download.
