Flash games were the precursors to many parts of the gaming industry today. The creativity and willingness to experiment has translated over to the indie games industry, many design elements that are used in AAA games today were first observed in flash games, and the casual nature of many flash games has translated over to the mobile game industry. Pole Riders is a game that proves that a simple gameplay loop that's difficult can be more than enough to carry itself.

The controls for this game are incredibly simple. Player 1 uses WASD to control their character, and Player 2 will use the arrow keys to control their character. Pressing left and right respectively will make them run left and right. Pressing up and down will raise or lower the pole they're holding in relation to which direction they're facing. The ultimate goal of the game is to knock the ball in the middle to the opposite goal.

Just like normal pole vaulting, you need to have a running start. You can't simply plant the pole in the ground and raise yourself through sheer muscle strength after all. So the game has a pretty engaging hit and run gameplay flow that relies on timing and positioning.

All in all, Pole Riders is another great game that shows off how even the simplest gameplay concepts can be made fun and engaging though execution.
