Ligh sources in vanilla Skyrim are very strange. Yes, Bethesda. I'm sure that light is coming from that door during the night. And that plank of wood over there is definitely glowing too. There are technical reasons for it occasionally that make it necessary, but overall, it feels like they cut a lot of corners. Well, one modder agrees, and he created Relighting Skyrim to fix that.
Installing Relighting Skyrim requires you to drag it into the Skyrim Data folder, as well as using LOOT to determine the optimal load order so you don't crash your game constantly, much like most Skyrim mods.
The main thing you'll notice when you boot this up is that the game is overall darker. That's because vanilla Skyrim has light sources placed in ways to light up the whole room, and not have light sources where there should be. For instance, in default Vanilla Skyrim, when there are two light sources ear each other, they would very often put a light source in between them instead of on top of each one.
This effect is very subtle, to the point where most people wouldn't notice that it's affecting their immersion until they fix it. Being able to see the shadows of objects in appropriate directions and dark corners of the room adds a lot to the more down to earth realistic feel. Overall, if you want to improve your immersion in Skyrim, then you should definitely download Relighting Skyrim. There's almost no reason not to.
