DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods that can all do different things. One of the best ones out there is Alien Bastards, a mod that changes so much it may as well be a whole new game.
To install Alien Bastards, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM mods.
The mod comes with a very tongue in cheek premise. It makes references to "90s action game here in the 21st century gig economy" and "alien bastards kidnapped Earth's accountants". It doesn't take itself seriously, which is only a good thing when it comes to tongue in cheek mods such as this.
That doesn't mean that it's not a good game, however. The sprite work looks fantastic, much higher quality than most other mods, and it features 8 full maps of alien carnage. The enemies all have a unique design and the maps are incredibly varied. You'll go from a space station to an alternate dimension full of alien geometry.
All in all, Alien Bastards is a fantastic mod and definitely changes up the fundamentals of Doom. If you want to have a brand new perspective on DOOM all wrapped up in a nice little quirky package.
