DOOM has been trudging along for decades now, with its legacy straining under its own weight at times. However, there are communities around the world that all love DOOM, and a few years ago, the ZDoom community released a map that they all worked on to celebrate DOOM - the very aptly named ZDoom Community Map Project: Take 2.
To install ZDoom Community Map Project: Take 2, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the ZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.
The story isn't exactly serious. There are a ton of humorous PDAs and a bunch of personal logs that your character has made themselves, both of which are assigned a key to access them. The overarching story is quite typical - some idiots have bee trying to communicate demons and now they've overrun the base. Same old drill.
There are a ton of secrets hidden around the map. Most of these secrets are pretty obvious to find, but if you're having trouble finding them, there are console commands to help you out. You might get lost exploring around the intricate level design and sheer size. This map has a whole lot of heart put into it, and you can definitely feel that as you play through.
Overall, ZDoom Community Map Project: Take 2 is a fantastic map that somehow manages to meld a whole ton of different artistic styles together into one map that somehow manages to be cohesive. If you want to dig into an incredibly dense map, you should give it a download.
