Ignore the name, Audacious isn't related to Audacity, even though they both are related to audio and share similar-sounding names. Instead, it's more related to XMMS, an audio player back in the day that was incredibly well known for its unique theme and Unix-like systems. However, it was developed solely for the Linux OS, so Windows users aren't likely to know about it. Audacious is here to introduce Windows users to it, in some fashion.
The interface might be one of the most notable things about the program. It comes with two different themes - one modern one called the GTK+ which fits in with modern programs, and one called Winamp that replicates the look of the earliest audio players. The Winamp interface looks and feels like you're using a tiny version of Winamp. It conveys all the same information it used to, like remaining/elapsed time, title and audio frequency, adjust the volume and balance, use an equalizer to edit the sound, create and manage playlists, as well as edit song metadata.
The GTK+ interface uses a tab-based interface that's extremely clean and copy/paste songs directly between the tabs. There isn't much it can do that the GTK+ interface can't do otherwise, which is both a compliment to the GTK+ interface and a testament to how efficient the program is.
If you need a good audio player, then Audacious is perfect for your needs. It both pays homage to its ancestry as well as boasting modern features and capabilities. I can easily recommend this program.
