The battery life on your laptop is one of the most important pieces of info you can get for obvious reasons. You don't want your laptop to die randomly before you save your work, right? The default built-in battery life monitor is more than good enough for most users, but there are a ton of details that it's leaving out. For those details, you need a specialized program like Battery Monitor to see it.
Installing Battery Monitor can be more of a hassle than usual. You need another program to install .gadget files, like 8Gadgets. Once you do that, it will appear in a small widget that you can move wherever you want on the desktop. You can make it stay on top of other windows and adjust its opacity levels. That ensures that this program stays out of the way of your workflow if you want it to.
The main interface shows a meter bar and percent level, battery status, remaining time, charge rate and current charge. Battery Monitor can also play sound notifications for critical battery levels and full battery mode. The program can also do many other things such as specifying a power plan and when to swap to it as well as tell you the charge/discharge rate, title, copyright marker and more.
All in all, if you want to have an improved battery notification system on your laptop, then you should give Battery Monitor a download. It tells you a ton of different things that are all useful.
