Low budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to create an epic, the creators instead need to focus on one unique feature to make their games stick out. From these restrictions come some truly inventive concepts. One of them is Uncle Covert Critter, which is an incredibly competent parody of the first Metal Gear Solid game.
To play Covert Critter, simply run the executable after unzipping it to a folder.
The setup for this game is pretty tongue-in-cheek. Terrorists known as the Red Hawks have taken over the GEKO Research Facility and are threatening nuclear annhilation. It's up to you, a gecko, to infiltrate and disarm all of their nuclear weapons.
The game is played from a top down perspective, save for certain controllable gadgets that will put you into their perspective. This game isn't just a Metal Gear Solid parody, and your character has many unique abilities to set him apart from good ol' Solid Snake. For instance, being a gecko, you can camoflauge and turn invisible. This is incredibly handy for slipping past guards on the patrol or simply fixing a screwup you may have had.
There are eight levels in this dedmo, with more to come whenever the two developers have time to work on this game more.
All in all, if you want to play a game with an incredibly unique premise, then you should give Covert Critter a download.
