Gripper: Prologue 1.0

There have been a ton of different RPG games out there, with the genre itself having a ton of different settings and gameplay styles that could be used. There have been fantasy games, sci-fi games, post apocalyptic games, and so on and so forth. However, one of the gameplay styles that hasn't been tried is a driving RPG game, and Gripper: Prologue is an intriguing sneak peek into a forthcoming game.

The setup for this game is surprisingly somber, as it starts with a panning shot over a meadow that becomes destroyed, a pendant over your dead family, and a transition into a wasteland filled with statues of old figures that are long gone. This game's main theme is loss and destruction, both to the environment and your own mental state.

The gameplay itself is presented incredibly well, with the tutorial being portrayed seamlessly and without windows. You control a car that comes equipped with a grappling hook, and grapples almost universally improves a game. Going past the prologue where you run down a tunnel and dodge obstacles, the game will transition into the main loop, which takes place overhead and has you managing resources and talking with NPCs while making conversation choices.
