DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. Other games that are created from this engine are also insanely moddable. One of the more popular ones is Heretic, and a fan made mod spawned from it - Heart of Fire.
To install Heart of Fire, you need to have Heretic installed and unzip the WAD files into the maps folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM engine mods.
This is a continuation to a previous installment, RiverF, but it doesn't explicitly continue that story. The setting is that you're a retired adventurer who starts to receive strange visions. You find a mysterious altar at a chapel and you descent into hell.
There's some great design here, with there not being any artificial walls anywhere. However, the main standout feature is the combat. There's barely any monsters on the map, with only 35 monsters. However, the final boss fight is incredibly intense. You're up against three Iron Liches, and you'll have to use all the equipment you've scavenged throughout the map to your advantage.
Overall, if you're a giant fan of Heretic, then you can't really go wrong with Heart of Fire. It's an incredibly well put together map that gets incredibly intense.
