Minecraft is a game with limitless potential. While people constantly push the boundaries with mods adding more and more gameplay features to the point where it can straight up turn into a strategy game or just flat out be a very functional MMORPG. However, there is a ton of things that can be done with vanilla Minecraft to this day. In fact, new things are still being made in vanilla Minecraft every day. One of the most jaw-dropping achievements is Pokemon Red in Minecraft.
Installing Pokemon Red in Minecraft is straightforward, just drag it into your maps folder. You can run the game perfectly in vanilla.
When you enter this map for the first time, you'll find yourself in a massive arena with a giant gameboy in the middle...and it has the first screen of Pokemon Red on it. When you walk up to it, you'll find that you're able to play the game! And it's not emulated - there's no sound or anything. It is actually coding and textures created by Minecraft command blocks.
How is this possible? Well, if you break the floor below you, you'll descend into what makes it possible - hundreds of thousands of command blocks arranged in a way that it's much like coding language given physical form. You can also see every individual map in the game being recreated with colored Minecraft blocks. It is truly a staggering feat and easily one of the grandest things that have ever come from Minecraft.
I can do nothing but praise this map. Pokemon Red in Minecraft deserves to be played.
