Everybody knows what Notepad is, right? Next to Microsoft Word, it has to be one of the most used programs around. It's just so useful for what it's designed to do - taking simple uncluttered notes. That simple thing is, thankfully, one of the most useful things for our day to day lives. What most people might be surprised to learn, though, is that there is an updated version called Notepads that's much improved.
This program is officially hosted on the Microsoft store, though you can also download it off of Github and use a shell installation technique. Notepads comes with a bunch of modern features that Notepad is missing, like support for dark mode, fluent design, and multi-line handwriting support. Most crucially, you can create new tabs, which helps you organize and work on many documents at once.
The interface of this program is extremely simple, as you'd expect from a program called Notepads. Many of the same hotkey shortcuts that worked in Notepad also works here. You can press CTRL+T to open new tabs, CTR+W to close the one you're working on, and CTRL + SHIFT + T to undo the close.
In other words, Notepad has been modernized and little else. There's still word wrap, and there's still find and replace. Nothing Notepad used to have was removed, and things have only been added. Indeed, this program is simply just a flat upgrade to Notepad, and there's very little reason not to recommend this program. Everybody uses Notepad, and everyone should use Notepads, plain and simple.
