Office 2007 Compatibility Pack 1.0

We all make mistakes, but when a company as large and as impactful as Microsoft is on everyday lives, it gets pretty scary. We can all admit that there were some major issues with Microsoft Office 2007. It was a major and unnecessary overhaul of the Microsoft Office Suite that was not welcomed with open arms. There were several new features and new mandates that, coming from Office 2003, people just were not ready for.

One of these changes were rather detrimental to everyone who'd been waiting on the new office suite. The change was to the file formats in which documents were saved. Each format had now included an "x" on the end of it, which caused chaos between those individuals still running office 2003 and the individuals that were running the new 2007 because the programs were unable to open files from one another. "Make sure you save it as a 2003 doc instead of docx" became a very popular phrase. As a desperate response to continuous outcry, Microsoft released the Office Compatibility Pack. The Office 2007 Compatibility Pack is a series of modifications for Office versions 2000, XP and 2003 that allow the different versions of Microsoft Office to be able to communicate with one another and read files from each other. This fix was not perfect though as many formatting differences including fonts and page margins were not properly transferred or sometimes even supported in the other version of office.

Microsoft later released an update to the Compatibility Pack that fixed the margin issue, but the font compatibility issue still remains today.
