Back when Overwatch was released, there were a ton of different games that tried to imitate its mix of MOBA mechanics and shooter gameplay. Paladins was, after a video from a popular YouTuber compared it to Overwatch, was widely derided by the wider gaming fanbase for "copying Overwatch". However, anyone who plays the game will find a ton of differences.
To install Paladins, make sure you have Steam installed. Once that's done, go to this link to install it.
The biggest change this game makes to set itself apart from other games in the genre the Card system. These cards are equipped 5 at a time, and can modify a ton of things about your character. These cards can affect anything from attributes to skills. Some of these cards are flat stat boosts, but the more interesting ones will change the way your abilities work.
For example, one of Skye's cards lets her generate ammo after entering a smoke screen she set down, changing the way it's used from simply obscuring the enemy to also being useful utility for her.
Another modification are items. At the beginning of a game, you can purchase items that can boost you using currency that you earn from playing the game. These items wear off after a game, and is the equivalent of items in a normal MOBA.
Overall, Paladins does enough to end up playing very differently from its premium big brother, despite the fact that all the characters look similar at first glance. Fans should not miss out.
