Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at Skolios.

To install Skolios, simply unzip the files inside the archive into any folder you want.

If you've played an RPG Maker horror game, you probably know the gist of this game already. However, this game stands out by being incredibly polished.

You play as a young woman who wakes up inside a mysterious train station that she can't leave. It's deserted apart from some other kids, a stranger who calls up on the phone, and of course, monsters and a shadowy creature. You'll need to find some way to escape the situation.

The overall plot unfolds how you'd expect. You uncover the dark secrets of the area and discover the nature of the train station. However, this game's pacing is to be commended. It's very slow burn, with lots of moving parts and expertly written horror that slowly builds up the dread up to the point where you start feeling suffocated by it.

The art style is pretty standard anime, but the pixel art is incredibly detailed and the environments look amazing. On top of that, it has camera transitions that were inspired by the original Resident Evils and Silent Hills that, while it looks clunky in a top down game, has never been done in an RPG Maker game before and looks amazing.

All in all, Skolios is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
