Sonic fan games are some of the strangest beasts out there. During its most popular era, there was a ton of fan content, most of which are shoddily made or incredibly "edgy". The Sonic RPG series is no stranger to any of these fan content tropes. In fact, it might seem like one of the worst offenders of it.

However, the evolution of the series is quite interesting. There are three eras to it - episodes 1-4, which are very badly written, episodes 5-8, which have high production value and better writing, and episodes 9-10, which revamp the gameplay completely. Let's look at Sonic RPG Episode 1-1.

To play Sonic RPG Episode 1-1, just run it with whatever SWF player you have.

Let's start with the visuals. This game has some poorly traced over art as its characters and its UI is just generally hard on the eyes, with saturated colors everywhere. The story isn't that great either - it's "edgy", with swear words dotted in left and right, and a ton of spelling errors around. However, the rest of the series won't make any sense without playing this entry, so you can't skip it, unfortunately.

The gameplay is, simply put, an illusion. It's fully scripted, and none of the numbers actually mean anything - you can't lose unless the "game" wants you to. 

Sonic RPG Episode 1-1 is definitely a product of its time and to its detriment.
