Sonic fan games are some of the strangest beasts out there. During its most popular era, there was a ton of fan content, most of which are shoddily made or incredibly "edgy". The Sonic RPG series is no stranger to any of these fan content tropes. In fact, it might seem like one of the worst offenders of it.

However, the evolution of the series is quite interesting. There are three eras to it - episodes 1-4, which are very badly written, episodes 5-8, which have high production value and better writing, and episodes 9-10, which revamp the gameplay completely. Let's look at Sonic RPG Episode 9.

To play Sonic RPG Episode 9, just run it with whatever SWF player you have.

This is a strange one. They've completely changed the gameplay from a turn-based system to an action brawler with a party system. Unfortunately, it is a very light system. The party system is absolutely useless because as far as I can tell, the party members do none to negligible damage. Thus, the ability to change the party's tactics is useless.

The story is also incredibly light. Sonic's been taken out for some reason, and Nights and Knuckles have come to support Shadow in fighting Seelkadoom. That's about it.

Sonic RPG Episode 9 is an experiment that doesn't quite work. Fortunately, it leads into a fantastic finale.
