Most modern browsers actually don't move as fast as they could - as they were built for the previous generation, their infrastructure isn't as streamlined as they could be. Enter Waterfox, a browser that is built for the x64 system, letting it take advantage of the more modern software to the maximum, or so they say. Does it deliver on its promise? Let's find out.
When you install it, it asks you for your most used browser so it can import the various bookmarks and preferences from it. This is a promising start. The worst part about switching browsers is losing all your saved passwords and whatnot. With this function, I got a sense of actual competency and would stand to lose nothing but my special extensions by switching over.
Waterfox has a similar interface to Mozilla Firefox, which will make the transition over easier if you're a Firefox user. It also has similar options, features, and customization as Firefox. To my surprise, some of my plugins and tools still worked, like Microsoft Office.
While a few visits to sites I frequent revealed that Waterfox is indeed fast, I wanted to know if it was faster than my main browser, which is Google Chrome. I opened up a speed test website and compared speeds from various browsers. Waterfox beat out Firefox, but just barely lost to Chrome. However, the loss is so minor that at that point, it comes down to preference. It is a really good browser, regardless, and completely free. If this review makes it sound good, then go give it a download!
