Alien Swarm is a little known top-down shooter series that many people have forgotten about. However, it still boasts a very dedicated group of fans that have kept this alive over the years. It is one of the finest cooperative shooters around, and Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop is the latest version fo this fantastic game.

The main premise of this game is simple. You are a group of space marines that are sent into infested locations to cleanse the area. There is a very wide variety of settings in its campaign, ranging from the typical infested military base to deserted civilian malls. Every player can play as one of four classes, and each of these classes have two characters. These classes and characters all boast different stats, weapons, and specializations to better define their role in the squad. 

For instance, the Engineer can hack consoles and doors quickly, weld them shut quicker, and set down turrets. The Medic, on the other hand, has to keep the squad alive and is the only counter there is to the various facehugging parasites.

This game supports up to 8 player coop, meaning you can fit a good chunk of your friend group in here if you want to play together. Overall, Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop is one of the best cooperative games on Steam and is also totally, completely free to play.
