DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. One of the many is ASDOOM.
To install ASDOOM, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.
When you boot this game up, you'll find that the game picks up immediately after DOOM 1. You emerge from the teleporter on earth and your superiors want to debrief you. The Doomguy then takes the role of an adviser as he's the leading expert in fighting demons after the events of DOOM 1. However, your dropship crashes and you have to clear the base you were going to from the bottom floor up.
There are a few extra features as well. For example, the creator abuses the hard-coding of secret level exits, resulting in having to exit the same level in two different ways to have a full playthrough. That gives it enough flavor to stand on its own - it's not trying to retread the same steps, it's trying to move forward in some ways. The story is actually fairly consistent as well, and slots itself into DOOM 1 and 2 well.
Overall, ASDOOM is a great fan made interquel. If you want to experience something new, then you should give this wad a download.
