DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. One of the many is Polygon Base.
Installing Polygon Base is simple. You need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the ZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.
First thing's first, this is a massive map. It is, frankly, incredible. Of course, since it's so big, and there are some technical limitations in the engine, there will be some graphical inconsistencies. While texturing is internally consistent, there are a couple of breaks where you can see it clearly split up.
Enemy encounters aren't very memorable, but it's fine because combat isn't really the point. Exploration is the main point of this absolutely massive map. There are also some great sights to see. For instance, there are some concrete rooms with some massive platforms that attack you from above.
There are also some puzzle solving, which really means puzzle solving via exploration. There's no real brainpower that you need to solve these puzzles.
All in all, however, Polygon Base is a technical marvel. It's an incredibly solid map even if you only take a small part of it and play just that, but taken as a whole, it's great.
