DOOM is one of the oldest FPSes in existence, and its engine is famously so robust that it can run on pretty much anything and also create pretty much anything. From FPSes to RPGs to companions to a city living game, it has a ton of different mods and maps that can all do different things. Some of these things are compiled together to create a massive user made campaign called a Megawad. One of the many is Resurgence.
To install Resurgence, you need to have ZDoom and move the WAD file into the GZDoom folder, which is pretty par for the course for DOOM maps.
This is based off of a previous collection of maps called Surge, and it shows. About a third of these maps have their origins in these original Surge maps. Sometimes, they're mashed up together into one large level too. The early ones also have their gameplay overhauled and rebalanced to provide a more challenging experience and fit into the rest of the megaWAD.
The other twenty maps are completely new and they work to switch up gameplay. Each of these maps are long and bring a ton of sense of adventure to the entire campaign. There are also two major additions to the enemy roster that show up map 21. These enemies integrate well into the sandbox of the game.
All in all, Resurgence is a great megawad that is incredibly fun to play through. If you're a DOOM fan, you should definitely give it a shot.
