Point and click games used to be all the craze until around the 2010s. Now, they're usually relegated to mid size productions or simple indie titles. The game is once again beautifully atmospheric, immersive, and has the right amount of difficulty. The game's audio design is fantastic and plays a massive part in the atmosphere. Every mechanical noise that plays when you switch screens to the empty, ever-present roar of the wind is incredible in making you feel uneasy and alone.

The story is also where it starts tying back to previous chapters, leading to a lot of aha moments whenever you find a common link and start forming the story around them. While the point and click puzzle gameplay is very competent, the mystery infused in this series is what will keep you playing.

All in all, Submachine 5: The Root is an incredibly engaging entry in the series that will leave you wanting more. Thankfully, you aren't like the fans at the time of the release who had to patiently wait for months at a time.
