By default, Windows does not come with support to play .flv files. If you're not familiar with that file extension, don't worry; you're not the only one. ".flv" stands for flash video. Flash video is found on tube sites like YouTube because they are very easy to load, playback, and manage due to their relatively small file size - although, just like any other file type, the right amount of data could make for a pretty large file.
When we download videos from tube sites, the file(s) that we receive are in their native format, the .flv format. In order to play these files, one would need to do one of two things: either he/she would have to convert the files - which can take a very long time with various dependencies including the file size, the converter itself, and the processing power of the PC that it is being run on - or simply download an flv player to playback the on your PC. Unless you're planning on saving the video to a mobile device to playback later, I highly recommend just downloading an flv player and calling it a day.
The FLV Player from Applian does just that. It allows you to playback flv files without any hassle. There are no annoying menus that take up half of the screen - I'm looking at you Windows Media Player - or random popups while watching your videos. Everything just gets out of the way and allows you to have a great viewing experience.
One rule of thumb: you will need to have adobe flash player installed on your system. Most likely you already have it installed, especially if you've been watching videos online.
