The world of digital maps is surprisingly complex. You'd think that coordinates would be very straightforward and simple. However, there are a ton of different types of spatial data, and not all the data are compatible with each other. Just like any other file, you'd need a program to help transform one set of data into another set. One of many programs to help is TRANSDAT.
Installing TRANSDAT is incredibly simple. Unzip the executable and run the setup program to get it done. Once you open it up, you'll quickly notice that the UI is a bit overwhelming. However, using it is actually pretty simple. This program offers various methods of transforming worldwide coordinates, with support for various reference systems for European countries or for USA and Canada. It also features NTv2 grid file supported coordinate transformations.
The utility provides users with the possibility to define their coordinates in more than one manner, such as by using either worldwide systems or country-specific ones. They can also use Helmer or Molodenski parameters.
This program also lets users define their own coordinate or reference systems, while also offering support for the use of EPSG codes for these systems. The program also comes with a programmable GPS interface that offers support for reading coordinates from a GPS antenna.
All in all, if you need to convert spatial data to a set of coordinates, then TRANSDAT is a great program to do it with. If that sounds like you, then you should give it a download.
