Super Smash Bros is one of the best known fighting games ever created. However, as it moved into the online age, it became infamous for its absolutely abysmal online play. While Nintendo's latest attempt at it in Ultimate was respectable, it's still far from good for a fighting game. Fans who believe Melee is and always will be the best Smash Bros game have created a client specifically for playing Melee online called Slippi, and it's easily the best online Smash experience around.
To install Slippi, unzip the archive and make sure to visit this link for details on how to exactly set it up.
This emulator uses an online netcode technique called rollback. Instead of waiting for the player's input to arrive like any other game would, it instead simulates the next frame without delay by guessing player inputs. Once the player input does arrive, if its guess is wrong, it will roll back to the last correct frame and play from there. The end result is a near flawless online experience, broken only when the ping is ridiculously high.
This emulator also packs features that are made just for melee. For example, flashing red on L-canceling is fantastic for anyone trying to seriously improve their game. There is also a wide screen mode as well as complex post game stats.
Overall, if you're a fan of Super Smash Bros Melee, then you should definitely give Slippi a download. There is no better way of experiencing Melee, especially right now with quarantine in effect.
